DSC OFF ICE PROGRAM


Britta Ottoboni: Britta has been the Off-Ice Training Coordinator at DSC since 2006. She is a National Certified Athletic Trainer, a National Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Massage Therapist. She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Central Michigan University in 1983, and her Master of Arts in Sports Science/Exercise from the University of Denver in 1985. Britta has been an active member of the U.S. Olympic Committee-Sports Medicine Division since 1988 and has traveled worldwide with a variety of sports and athletic levels including being part of the medical staff for the 1992, 1998, 2002 & 2006 Olympic Winter Games.


DSC holds classes throughout the year for the skters. The classes include ballet, plyometrics, weight training, conditioning and flexibility training.

Our program continues to be on the cutting edge of off-ice training in what we offer the skaters and in training our off-ice staff.

DEBBIE PITSOS, NSCA-CPT - Debbie has taught exercise for 30 years. She is the owner of Concepts in Fitness, a personal training business, and she directed the Off-Ice Training Program at DSC for sixteen years. Debbie has a liberal degree with concentration in Exercise Science and is a certified instructor through the American Council on Exercise, NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, and a YMCA Certified Fitness Specialist. She also earned a PSA rating for coaching ice dance. Debbie has served on several of the USFS committees and numerous faculties for the USFS Sports Medicine/Science Camps and seminars since 1995. She is the recipient of the 2007 U.S. Figure Skating & PSA Sports Science Coaching Award.

CINDY SILK - Cindy was a member of the Women’s US Judo team for twenty years. She has taught martial arts, conditioning, plyometrics and weight training to many athletes in different sports. Cindy is also a certified massage therapist, specializing in sports massage.

SARI ZALESIN - Sari grew up a competitive figure skater who skated under Miggs Neenan at NSFSC and DSC. She performed for several years in the Southfield Ice Show. She has had an exciting career in broadcasting and is honored in the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts Hall of Fame. While working in Minneapolis, she was on the Minneapolettes synchronized team. She is also noted as the first female Public Address Announcer in the NHL for the Dallas Stars. Sari also holds the distinct honor of being the first woman hired in the programming department of XM Satellite radio. Sari has traveled far and wide but returns to our area and is now certified by the Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Instructor. She trained under the supervision of Jonny Kest at the Center for Yoga. She brings her presence of a challenging, motivating and internal yoga experience – for the mind, body and soul to DSC and its members.

KIM STEFFEY– conditioning, weight training, jump technique
Kim graduated with honors from Oakland Community College with a degree in Exercise Science and Technology. Kim is currently furthering her education in Exercise Science at Oakland University so she can combine exercise science and her fifteen years of skating experience, in synchronized skating, figures, freestyle and ice dance, for the benefit of the DSC skater.

ANNE MARINE - Anne graduated magna cum laude with her B.F.A. in dance from Western Michigan University and the Lee Honors College. She danced professionally for the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble for 10 years and also served as founding director for the EDE Center for Dance, artistic director for the Center Dance Ensemble and part time faculty at Oakland University. She has worked with numerous internationally known choreographers and trained with dance artists across the country. She still performs as guest artist for EDE as well as Patterson Rhythm Pace Dance Company. She has been on staff at the Detroit Skating Club since 1994 teaching group and private classes in ballet, modern dance, jazz, choreography and yoga-based fitness. Her teaching methodology is an anatomically based movement technique. Anne also works with skaters on artistic presentation and choreography both on and off the ice.

JACQUELENE BOUCARD - Ms. Boucard teaches ballet, jazz, modern dance and is a certified Pilates instructor. She graduated cum laude with her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Utah and trained extensively with the School of Ballet West, throughout the U.S. and abroad. Jacquelene danced professionally for seven years with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, touring the U.S. and performing works by an international array of choreographers. With more than 14 years of teaching experience, she has trained and developed choreography and artistry for skaters of all disciplines and ages – ranging from beginner to National, Olympic and World competitors

KIM BROWN - Kim is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer. She has a Bachelor Degree in Health Science with a focus in Exercise Science as well as an Associate Degree in Exercise Science. Kim has 20 years of competitive figure skating experience in figures, moves in the field, freestyle, synchro, dance, and competed has at the national level. She combines her 8 years of teaching background and knowledge of figure skating to propel each skater to new levels.

FRED CADUCIO - Fred taught and competed all types of ballroom dance for over 20 years. He studied dance at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. In addition, Fred toured with the Ice Capades for 5 years and has worked as assistant director and choreographer for the Ice Company of Southfield.

AMBER CZISNY - Amber is a former National and International competitor. She is a USFS triple gold medalist in Freestyle, Moves and Dance. She will graduate in 2008 with a BA from Oakland University in Dance Performance. She danced with two companies, UPD in Ohio and ODT at Oakland University; she has also participated in EDE summer performances. Amber also performed through Starbound NYC. She teaches ballet, modern, choreography, and flexibility in addition to on ice coaching.
